So my nose ring is no longer.
"How? Why?" you may ask. "It was so glorious!" I know, I know. All in due time.
Last Monday morning at about 6:30, I awoke with excruciating stomach pain. I thought I might just have a stomach flu, like I did back in June, so I stuck it out for a few hours until I could no longer take the pain and went to the doctor. She put me on a clear liquid diet and told me to call her if the pain got worse. That night, I had a really high fever and the next day the pain did get worse. So I went back to the doctor, and she sent me to the hospital because I seemed to have a textbook case of appendicitis. I had to take my nose ring out for the surgery, and when I went to put it in the next day, the hole had already started to close up. I was too late.
I was also stuck in the hospital until Saturday, eating nothing but italian ice and jello. Appendicitis usually doesn't require a 5-day hospital stay, but I had a bad reaction. The doctors still don't really know what happened. So here I am, enjoying my week off of work to finish recovering. I should be back to work on Monday, and classes start on Wednesday.
Just wanted to give a little update, really. I'm absolutely terrible at blogging, I know. But life just seems to get in the way. Catch you all later!
Rilo Kiley is one of my favorite bands, and they're going in a new direction with their album that's coming out in August. Check out their video for "The Moneymaker." The song is funky and the video is interesting. Apparently the full version includes more of the interviews that are shown at the beginning of the video.
I'm wide awake at 4 in the morning because I'm so excited for the day that's ahead of me. I have class in the morning, but I have to be at BU by 1:30. Why, you may ask? Because I am volunteering as a scorekeeper for the FIRST Boston Regional.
I was involved in FIRST throughout high school. I did the electronics on my team's robot and I was also one of the robot operators. Even though I'm in college and only loosely affiliated with a team, I knew I couldn't be far from where the action is. A friend of mine who is very involved in FIRST convinced me to be a scorekeeper. I've been up tonight going over tutorials and other documentation about setting up the field, making it so the match pairings are randomized, and a million other things that scorekeepers need to be on top of. I realized years ago that those people working behind the scenes did a lot. Now I'm about to experience it firsthand!
I think I might document my day tomorrow. I haven't whipped out the ol' powershot SD400 in awhile and I'd really like to remember this day.
To all my Boston voxers: try to come to the regional this weekend if you can. It's at BU's Agganis Arena and open to the public on Friday and Saturday. Go to http://www.bostonfirst.org/ for more information. FIRST is an amazing organization. Without it, I don't think I would be going to school in Boston, so I'm trying to give back in any way I can.
How have people mispronounced your name? How is it supposed to sound?
Submitted by Lorie.
People mispronounce and misspell my first name quite often. My name is Bridgette, pronounced BRIDGE-IT, but people call me Brigitte a lot, and sometimes Brittany, which is just weird. My name is often misspelled too. People forget the t and e at the end. My last name is Blight, pronounced like light with a b in front of it, but people often say Blake or Bright instead. I have to enunciate my name really clearly, and sometimes spell it too, for people to understand it.

Pharaoh posted this Final Fantasy Parody made by Babson College students today. I just wanted to share it with my neighborhood too. Anyone who has ever played the game will realize why this rocks so much.
Audio: Let's hear your favorite cover song.

This song is from the I Am Sam soundtrack. The sound track is all Beatles covers, but I would have to say this one is the best. It also holds a special significance in my life.
I have a dilemma, a big one. During high school, I was heavily involved in FIRST. I went to all of the team meetings that I could. I wired the robot. The team became like my family. Now I'm in college and I have to do exceedingly well this semester to keep my FIRST scholarship and stay at Northeastern. However, I don't want to turn my back on my new team. They seem like great people and might be able to help me with some of my classes this semester (specifically physics).
I was toying around with the idea of just not being involved at all, but I really don't want to do that. I don't want to burn bridges so early in my college career, and I think FIRST might be really helpful to me. So what should I do? I think I'm going to e-mail my team's advisor soon, but I'm not sure what I will say.

Holy moly! Get better soon! read more
